60 Best Hair Products of 2024

best shampoo and conditioner for fine hair

This fade-preventing conditioner is designed specifically to protect and nourish colored-treated hair. If you have thick or coarse hair that tangles easily this conditioner will make it easier to manage post-shower. Blue shampoos are great for blondes with a more caramel highlight and brunettes with orange and brassy tones, says Benson.

Best for Color-Treated Hair

Hairstylists say fine hair is also most prone to breakage from heat damage and chemical treatments, such as keratin and hair dye. That's where shampoos for fine hair come into play — they're nourishing enough to strengthen delicate strands without weighing them down. Shampoos for fine hair add some much-needed volume to flat hair so users can achieve bouncy bombshell hair like '90s Cindy Crawford or Denise Richards in season seven of Friends. Confession, I've never met hair product from Briogeo I haven't liked, but as far as shampoos and conditioners go for those with fine hair, its superfood-boasted formulas are some of the best. I recommend doing two rounds with the shampoo before using the conditioner and afterward, you'll notice an instantaneous uptick in volume.

When shopping for a quality fine hair shampoo, avoid moisturizing or smoothing products because they tend to have ingredients that can weigh the hair down, says Caspara. Instead, “opt for gentle cleansers and lightweight conditioners that aren’t trying to oversell on the moisturizing capability,” she says. Ingredients are typically listed in proportion, so if heavy oils like avocado or shea butter appear amongst the first few ingredients, fine-haired shoppers beware.

This hair growth shampoo is legit excellent for strengthening your hair, especially if you're experiencing hair loss from damage. The MVP ingredient is keratin, which basically fills in all the little holes in your hair strands to make them both look and feel stronger. But the formula also features a whole host of other good-for-hair-and-scalp ingredients, including peptides, aloe, and mannitol. Oribe is one of the most iconic hair care brands in the business, and its volumizing shampoo and conditioner are some of the absolute best for fine hair.

Sulfates are the cleansing agent in most shampoos responsible for that rich, foamy lather. “Many people try to demonize sulfates, but in small quantities they reduce scalp oil, give hair some body and are cost-effective,” says Kingsley. Another shampoo that gets high marks according to Beauty is the Innersense Pure Harmony Hairbath. “It builds body without the use of heavy ingredients like silicones,” she says. To give hair a lift, the product relies on a gentle, sulfate-free concoction made of coconut, rice bran and avocado oils.

Overwashing your hair can lead to dry strands that are more susceptible to damage, which can cause more harm in the long run. This option is ideal for those who need a gentle cleanser and who gravitate towards products with natural and/or plant-based ingredients. This might not be the pick for you if you prefer a shampoo that lathers up a lot. We had to use a decent amount of product to get a good lather, and even then, it wasn’t very sudsy. Along the same lines, we sometimes needed to shampoo twice to get that squeaky clean feeling.

Fine hair naturally feels smooth and silky, but that doesn’t mean you should skip conditioning. Coating the middle and ends of your locks with a conditioner will help keep fine strands from getting tangled (thin strands, whether curly or straight, are highly susceptible to this) and forming a dreaded, unbrushable knot. Dialing in on your hair type is supremely helpful when it comes to finding the right shampoo and conditioner for you.

John Frieda Volume Lift Lightweight Thickening Shampoo 250ml

It removes product buildup and increases strand density almost immediately. This shampoo worked so well that our hair stylist even commented on how much fuller and thicker our hair felt. If your hair is dry but also short on body, a deeply nourishing shampoo can sometimes veer a bit too heavy. Pairing caffeine to stimulate root follicles and aloe leaf juice to hydrate and soothe ends, this lightweight formula aids with lacklustre locks struggling with volume and shine.

This gentle yet nourishing shampoo has definitely achieved cult-favorite status, and it's easy to see why. Oribe Gold Lust is packed with healing and moisturizing oils and butters — like argan oil, shea butter, and maracuja — and other powerful ingredients like biotin, plant collagen, and plant-based protein. It also has scalp-invigorating caffeine, which Khanna and Levine say is a game changer for hair growth. If you’re working with high-porosity hair, your hair likely sucks up moisture (ahem, a sponge with tons of holes), but also loses it easily, so your waves may frequently feel dry, damaged, poofy, and tangled.

It's also got a handful of ingredients that'll actually go into your hair shaft to moisturize, including glycerin, sodium PCA, and glutamic acid. If you're dealing with thin, frizzy hair, you'll want something that smooths without weighing you down, like Verb Ghost Conditioner. Signature ingredients like moringa seed oil and quinoa protein coat each strand with lightweight protection while addressing split ends and leaving a shiny, sleek finish in its wake. It works well on all hair types and helps achieve slick-back hair looks without relying on loads of hair gel.

Once you use it and see how your hair reacts to it, you can adjust how much or little you want to use, says O’Connor. If you have dark hair, are brunette and have red tones in your hair, or have red and brassy tones, consider using a green shampoo because it will counteract the red, says O’Connor. This is why Han and Levine advise consulting with a board-certified dermatologist.

“Post-shower, my hair feels bouncy and light, and doesn’t feel weighed down,” she says. As someone who has uber-fine hair, I’m intimately acquainted with the struggles that come with a thin hair texture. That in mind, determining which products work best for my hair type has been a journey.

This is a great cruelty-free option for anyone looking for a deeply cleansing shampoo for the hair and scalp. Olplex shampoo is ideal for all hair types but it’s especially beneficial if you have dyed and chemically processed hair. We had a noticeable reduction in breakage and shedding while using this pick. We also started to see promising new growth along our hairline near the end of testing. Our favorite benefit is that our hair feels and looks so much healthier after concluding testing.

According to celebrity hairstylist Anthony Nader, the best formulas for fine or thin hair gently cleanse to remove product buildup, plump the hair shaft, and leave strands full of body without added weight. This conditioner is the richest in Tracee Ellis Ross's product lineup for natural hair. It's especially effective at penetrating coily strands and tight textures battling dryness or low porosity (hair that struggles to absorb treatments).

The sulfate-, paraben-, phthalate- and formaldehyde-free formula cleans deeply and smoothes hair, leaving it easy to detangle and style. Pattern will give you the resources to make your natural coif as effortlessly chic as that of the brand’s famous founder. If you’re looking for moisture, what better place to take inspiration (and ingredients) from than the rainforest? Abergel highly recommends this shampoo and conditioner combo that draws its moisture-enhancing properties from cupuaçu, the fruit of a tree native to many of South America’s wet and steamy climes. Cupuaçu butter is rich in antioxidants, and some studies claim it has nourishing properties 1.5 times stronger than its cousin shea butter.

I would also avoid any formulas containing sulfates as these strip the natural oil produced in our hair; and for the finer hair types, they need all the moisture retention they can get,” she says. Dr. Marmur also recommends looking for products that contain polymers, which can “aid thickness and better lift the hair shaft,” she adds. Our top choice for all hair types is this Deep Clean Clarifying shampoo from Kristin Ess. Its selling point is its proprietary strengthening complex that helps to clean the hair and scalp, reduce oil, and smooth damaged strands. During testing, we really loved how lightweight it made our hair and scalp feel – like we could feel the dirt and build-up had been noticeably removed.

10 best shampoos for fine hair in 2024

It's chock-full of hair-friendly ingredients, like safflower seed oil, jojoba oil, and avocado oil, which add bounce and a glossy finish. Plus, it doubles as a repair mask—let it marinate with the steam of your shower for about 10 minutes before rinsing. Even the sweet floral scent of neroli rose, and patchouli feels like a treat to your senses. Celebrity hairstylist Kristen Shaw recommends getting products formulated for your hair type. "For example, if you have curly, dry hair, it would be great to use a curly shampoo that will specifically add moisture and then use a smoothing conditioner to help lock down any frizz," she explains.

Instead of coating the hair, it penetrates the hair shaft with vitamin B7 and hydrolyzed wheat protein, bringing it back to life and making it full and plump from the inside out. You'll be left with subtle thickness and an all-around soft feel, but the results aren't super noticeable. Scotch Porter’s blend of botanically infused natural ingredients makes for one of the most effective conditioning products on the market, especially if you tend to have sensitive skin. The brand’s mix of fortifying oils prevents excessive shedding and frizz and is completely sulfate-free. It’s like a drink for your whiskers— quenching their thirst and leaving them gleaming with a softness that’s nothing but silky luxe.

OGX Thick & Full Volumizing Shampoo

“Fine hair refers to hair texture, and means that the strands of hair are smaller in diameter,” says Papadeas. Here’s what to consider when shopping for the right shampoo for this hair type. Francis recommends incorporating Vitamins C and E and coconut, soybean, almond, and sunflower oils to smooth straight hair. As previously mentioned, someone can have fine hair that's thinning, meaning they're losing precious strands that happen to be very small in diameter.

Best for Oily Scalps: Kérastase Spécifique Bain Divalent

It also contains vegetable and lupin proteins to strengthen hair and repair damage. We love that it's paraben- and sulfate-free, but wish it lathered better. Full Shampoo contains the brand's proprietary cleansing complex rich in fortifying amino acids, while peptides plump your strands to create a more voluminous mane. The British brand sells a premium conditioning product that incorporates wheat protein to strengthen your hair and prevent breakage down the line while using citric acid to promote a pH balance specifically suited to facial hair. You don’t need to have the beard of a Viking (or his general lack of personal hygiene) to appreciate the nourishing powers of this product. Viking Revolution’s beard conditioner locks in moisture to reduce itchiness and irritation and prevent your skin from flaking, all while strengthening the hair on your face.

What is the difference between regular shampoo and shampoo for hair growth?

Han also notes that hormonal changes are another common cause of hair loss — particularly in those assigned female at birth. In people assigned male at birth, Khanna says this is usually related to an increase in dihydrotestosterone (DHT) at the hair follicles. "Genetics, in particular, play a big role in pattern hair loss," says Han. "Genetically-driven hair loss is progressive and will worsen over time without treatment. Reversing and/or treating the underlying medical issue is important in optimizing the chances of hair regrowth."

We tend to conflate fine hair with thin hair, but it’s possible to have a thick, full mane of fine, wispy strands—or conversely, a thin head of hair comprised of coarse, heavier strands. Every single one of our experts agree that you should not wash your hair every day. But just how many washes you need in a week can vary, depending on both your hair type and your lifestyle. A good stylist should never let you off the hook when it comes to treating dandruff, and Witherspoon is no exception. When her clients come in with obviously dry, flaky scalps, she immediately recommends they start using Briogeo’s weekly Scalp Revival treatments. Ok, the formula is pretty simple, but it does everything you'd expect of a shampoo - washes hair, leaves strands shiny, and gives roots a bit of extra oomph.

Kérastase Resistance Bain Volumifique Thickening Shampoo

What's more, feather-light silk fibers are meant to help detangle and moisturize without weighing you down. To make our selections, we spoke to two dermatologists, tested some formulas ourselves, and read countless customer reviews. If you're working with chemically processed hair—whether from a Brazilian blowout, a straightening treatment, or bleach—you need a shampoo that'll gently cleanse without drying or stripping. This one from Madison Reed goes above and beyond, preventing fading and dullness, safeguarding strands from sun and heat damage, and adding fullness and body.

Best Thickening

To help you find the right product, we spoke to experts and tested 21 popular shampoos. We carefully evaluated each product based on criteria such as ease of use, effectiveness, cleansing ability, scent, and overall results. Available in both a liquid and solid formula, this volumising hair wash is a hero for limp and lacklustre hair. It's effective at removing oil and dirt, without compromising on the soft, glossy finish we expect from a high-end shampoo. Did we mention the classic shampoo is obtained with 100% clean energy, while its solid counterpart is completely carbon offset? A fantastic investment for anyone looking to go greener with their haircare.

We stand behind this hydrating conditioner for wavy or curly hair craving a glossy finish and protection from flyaways, as long as your hair isn't too fine in which case it might weigh it down too much. If you have an oily scalp or hair that quickly becomes greasy after washing, this lightweight, silicone-free formula might be your answer. Though the bond-mending formula is particularly helpful for bleached, color-treated, or chemically processed hair, all hair types can benefit from using this conditioner. It is thick though, so it can be a bit of a challenge to get out of the bottle, especially when there's not much left. "Regular shampoos are formulated to clean and rid the hair of dirt, sweat, and unwanted oils," says Boakye. "These natural ingredients have been shown to promote increased strength and integrity of existing hairs while decreasing the potential for shedding," explains Han.

The gentle formulation also includes coffee extract to stimulate hair growth and reduce hair loss. But don't worry, online reviewers can't get enough of his caffeine-infused shampoo for fine hair. Celebrity hairstylist Andrew Fitzsimons has his own line of well-priced haircare products available at Ulta, so naturally the Irish professional is a fan of his own creation. Sulfates are helpful for cleansing (they're responsible for the lathering factor in many shampoos), but they can also strip the hair, which isn't helpful when your strands are already notably thin. Infused with rosemary extract, L'Oreal Paris Ever Strong helps prevent breakage by fortifying fine, fragile hair. We love the fresh minty, rosemary scent, but some uses have noted it can be a tad drying.

From strengtheners and fortifiers to vodlumiziers and thickeners, find the standout options that give your hair the va-va-voom it craves. Striking the balance between hydration and volume can be tricky, especially when you have thin hair that's easily weighed down. If you have fine hair, then you know the struggle of finding a conditioner that effectively moisturizes without making your thinner strands look greasy. Thankfully, there are some formulas on the market that can help fine hair appear thicker and more voluminous without compromising hydration—you just have to know where to look. Here’s a shampoo that’s free of all the bad (sulfates, parabens) and packed with the good (Caprauna turnip extract, which is rich in vitamins).

Preserving and restoring the heritage of the original, ECD offers a Range Rover Classic bespoke to your exact taste, lifestyle, and design.

The most important aspect of our company is the wonderful clients that support us each day.

In a meeting between gas pumps, it was there that our founders determined that if ECD wanted to do this right and become known for the best custom builds on the planet, they had to have complete control. Our founders, Tom, Elliot, Scott, quickly developed an interest in vehicles, specifically classic English vehicles. When Tom and Emily, his wife, moved to the USA in 2012, they decided to open a dealership and import some of the vehicles about which they had been so passionate over the years. The Jaguar is one of the very few special cars that has managed to transcend its medium. It is not only a dream car for many enthusiasts but has also permeated many aspects of culture.

For example, when preparing the vehicle for final stages, you can choose between orbital sanders or Dual Action (DA) sanders. Using a DA sander allows the technician to perfect the preparation before painting by eliminating swirl marks, etc. Cutting out damaged parts and preparing the areas for the new components properly is important in keeping the integrity of the vehicle. The second series of the Jaguar ran for three short years from 1968 to 1971 with approximately 18,000 manufactured.

Furthermore, the company has finally added DC fast-charging capabilities for its customers. "The classic car ecosystem represents an addressable market of roughly $15 billion, and tapping into one of the largest models within that space enables ECDA to increase its presence amongst restomod enthusiasts." Beneath its classic exterior lies cutting-edge technology, ensuring optimal performance, safety, and comfort, making ECD Auto Design's Range Rover Classic a true masterpiece of automotive innovation. Enter Scott, also English but Scottish when it suits him, a private investor with a Blue Chip corporate background and a passion for cars that started with a Porsche mug at 10 years old. It was his drive along to the local Wawa that started a pivotal moment for ECD Automotive Design.

Built on a Series III Model and highly customized with ECD's second generation EV 300 HP powertrain and gorgeous accents, this roadster will be turning heads for years to come. Knowing the vehicle and knowing how to execute fabrication flawlessly are key ingredients to a successful restoration. We have a great blend of English owners and American staff, we have different views on how the perfect custom vehicle should look, but that truly is what makes our vehicles so special. In 2013, ECD Automotive Design opened its workshop/showroom for its first few staff and a couple of trucks. Tom, his brother Elliot and the first employee, Brandon, would work 18 hour days, stripping these trucks down and rebuilding them to the clients’ taste. ECD outsourced some of the major works locally, and quickly learned this wasn’t ideal.

The Jane Austen Society was instrumental in funding repairs and in building the Museum’s collection. The museum is displaying a letter Jane wrote to her sister Cassandra when she received her first copy of the book, costumes from the 1995 BBC television production and a contemporary art exhibition inspired by the novel. The house’s most famous association is with Jane Austen, whose brother Edward, inherited the house when distant family members Thomas and Catherine Knight, made him their heir. Edward offered the bailiff’s residence, five minutes’ walk from Chawton House, to his mother and sisters, Jane and Cassandra, and it was there, now the Jane Austen’s House Museum, where Jane enjoyed the most prolific period of her writing life. The memoir is one of the latest acquisitions in Jane Austen’s House Museum’s unparalleled collection – which includes letters, jewellery and first-editions of Jane’s novels – and the museum is eager to publish the results.

The text as a whole remains unpublished although some details are known, as short extracts have been published in various biographies of the Austens. The roof of the cottage was last updated in 1948, shortly before it opened to the public as Jane Austen’s House Museum in July 1949. This 4.5-mile circular walk starting at the centre of Chaton allows you to enjoy some of the beautiful Hampshire scenery as well the key Jane Austen spots in the area including the village of Farringdon. Her brother’s early travel journals and suit are also in the museum as well as the Knight’s private library, featuring a number of their original rare books which are thought to only exist at Chawton House.

In the drawing room, meanwhile, visitors will hear recordings of pianoforte pieces that the Austens would have played in that very room. As well as period rooms, the House includes ‘museum rooms’ in which we display precious items from the collection in secure display cases. These also allow us to put on small, temporary exhibitions, or to display highlight objects. After her death, her mother and her sister, Cassandra, continued to live there.

Edward, who had been named heir to the wealthy Knight family and had since inherited the Chawton Estate offered the house to the Jane, her mother, sister Cassandra and close friend Martha Lloyd rent-free for life in 1809. While Austen received some accolades for her works while still alive, with her first three novels garnering critical attention and increasing financial reward, it was not until after her death that her brother Henry revealed to the public that she was an author. Jane Austen’s House Museum has obliged and asked the public to help transcribe a manuscript written by Jane’s brother, Admiral Sir Francis Austen, in his final days. Browse our online shop and discover our selection of beautiful gifts and souvenirs, including our Chawton House x Tatty Devine jewellery. Before “Downton Abbey” there was Mr. Darcy’s Pemberley, and even a chagrinned Elizabeth Bennet could not deny the house’s charms.

Today, Austen is considered one of the greatest writers in English history, both by academics and the general public. The Janeites, a Jane Austen fan club, eventually began to take on wider significance, similar to the Trekkie phenomenon that characterizes fans of the Star Trek franchise. The popularity of her work is also evident in the many film and TV adaptations of Emma, Mansfield Park, Pride and Prejudice, and Sense and Sensibility, as well as the TV series and film Clueless, which was based on Emma.

As a result, the family was thrust into financial straits; the three women moved from place to place, skipping between the homes of various family members to rented flats. It was not until 1809 that they were able to settle into a stable living situation at Austen's brother Edward's cottage in Chawton. Austen spent much of her early adulthood helping run the family home, playing piano, attending church, and socializing with neighbors. Her nights and weekends often involved cotillions, and as a result, she became an accomplished dancer. On other evenings, she would choose a novel from the shelf and read it aloud to her family, occasionally one she had written herself.

The descriptive narrative moves swiftly, however there are also moments of deeper reflection and detail, indicating that it was a personal memoir. It is believed to be the hand of Francis Austen himself, although it is written in the third person. When you send it back to us, we will check it and add it to the full transcription. Austen was in the worldwide news in 2007, when author David Lassman submitted to several publishing houses a few of her manuscripts with slight revisions under a different name, and they were routinely rejected.

In September, Dunford’s team instituted "Austen Wednesdays," a weekly chat with an author or expert on some aspect of Austen's work or age that regularly sees upwards of 1,000 views on YouTube, as well as a running series in which actors read famous passages from the novels. Jane Austen’s House is a historic property with low doorways and uneven surfaces underfoot. The ground floor and outbuildings are fully accessible and we have an accessible toilet with baby changing facilities. Unfortunately, the upstairs of the main house is currently only accessible by climbing a historic wooden staircase although the upstairs can now be viewed virtually via our 360° virtual tour.

Wheelchair users will need assistance if visiting alone, so please let us know and we will make arrangements to support you during your visit. Parking is available on the main road and in the dead end car park (operated by Chawton Parish Council) at the bottom of the drive, from here it is a short stroll up to the Great House. Please note, bookings of 8+ will need to be booked as a group tour by emailing A brief history of Jane Austen’s House, from its first incarnation as a medieval farmhouse to its present status as a museum of Jane Austen’s life and works – and the most treasured Austen site in the world.

Cozumel Cruise Port and Terminal Information

cozumel cruise ports

Not exactly an authentic local experience, but hey, their T-shirt game is still pretty strong. This strip is also home to Beach Bum Bikes, which is my favorite place to rent electric bikes and do one of the most fun and stress-free eco-friendly activities on the island. Coco Cafe is a stylish new coffee shop another block or two north of Ernestos. Part of a successful restaurant group in Cozumel, Coco Cafe is the perfect place to start the day with a cup of good Mexican coffee and a selection of light pastries and sandwiches. Jump on the Cozumel Trolley for a shady break and a relaxing tour of the busy tourist areas of Cozumel. From lively shopping plazas to casual cafes and local artisans showcasing their crafts, there’s something for everyone as you step off the gangway.

Royal Village Shopping Center

Your cruise ship will dock at one of three Cozumel cruise ports, all located on the island’s western side. These include Punta Langosta, International pier, and Puerta Maya. Where you dock could depend on what cruise line you are sailing. Some of the restaurants you will find at the port will become a hive of activity as cruise ship passengers come and go while the ships are docked in Cozumel, Mexico. You can grab a meal at either one of these places or take a cab to San Miguel town for a more local cuisine.

Shopping in Cozumel

While San Miguel and Cozumel might have been a sleepy tourist spot decades ago, that’s no longer the case. It offers an amazing assortment of things to do for tourists, including everything from visits to Mayan ruins to snorkeling to diving, to shopping and much more. The beaches on the western side of cozumel are usually preferable because they are free of seaweed and offer calmer waters. For the best experience, consider heading to the western beaches that are away from the ports, as they are generally rock-free.

This terminal is located within walking distance of San Miguel downtown and its main attractions, shops, bars, and restaurants. The cruise lines such as Disney, NCL, MSC, Oceania, Silversea, Marella Cruises, and several others normally dock here (this can change, though, so always check beforehand). In this section, we will cover the best beaches near the Cozumel cruise port, the top landmarks to explore and the best restaurants and bars to try. Whether you’re looking for relaxation or adventure, Cozumel has something for everyone on a cruise stop.

Nearby Snorkeling and Diving Spots

Car rentals are offered by all major companies, with their offices located near the cruise piers. Chankanaab National Park is approx 5,5 mi (9 km) south of San Miguel. The park is open daily (between 7 am - 5 pm) and as amenities offers a lagoon, beach, restaurant, full-service bar, changing rooms, several walking trails. There you can enjoy snorkeling, scuba diving, SeaTREK helmet diving, swimming with dolphins.

And if you haven’t been to a Mayan ruin yet, don’t fret the pyramid fountain at the center of the port, is created in exquisite detail to resemble the Chichen Itza ruins. Carnival has even added an additional pier separate to the ship pier, where boat excursions start from, and all other water transport vehicles. With new entrants in the restaurant scene such as the new oceanfront eatery that serves authentic Mexican dishes and popular Caribbean dishes. The popular Three Amigos bar where amigos can catch up and hang out on their port day. And more places like the popular Fat Tuesdays and a new addition, Pancho’s Backyard which offers great views of the ocean. However, if you are coming in via ship, after docking you will find a long-paved pier that takes you into the port area.

There’s also a sandy walking path down to the rocky, limestone beach. For a break from the action, located between Chen Rio and Punta Morena, ascend the stone stairs up to one of my favorite bars in Cozumel. Playa Chen Rio beach is a great escape and one of the only really nice soft, sandy beaches on this side of the island. Here on the east side of Cozumel and the Caribbean Sea, you’ll feel like you’re on your private beach. At the southern tip of Cozumel Island, this eco-reserve is a protected lagoon teeming with wild birds and crocodiles.

Amenities Within Walking Distance of Cozumel’s Puerta Maya Cruise Terminal and Piers

Tasting genuine Mexican cuisine is a must when calling on a cruise. In October 2018 was conducted a study for building a new (4th) cruise terminal on Cozumel Island to cope with the constantly increasing passenger shipping traffic. According to Quintana Roo state's statistics, in 2018 the island was visited by over 3,1 million cruise ship tourists (passengers and crew). You can walk on your own or join guided walking tour in the city. If you want to rent a car, the closest offices are 5 blocks from the cruise ship pier.

Go on a Boat Tour

The Spaniards arrived in Cozumel around 1518 and the rest is history. Cozumel is a small but well-maintained island with a ring road, as well as one that bisects the island. There's a certain kitsch factor at El Cielo Lounge Bar, from the neon cursive signs encouraging bad decisions to the electric blue cocktails and clouds of hookah smoke. Cozumel may be small, but it knows how to party into the wee hours, and you'll often find people pushing their bedtimes at El Cielo. The symbol for pesos is the same as for US dollars, which can be slightly confusing.

For more info and specifics about all the cruise port shopping picks, click on this in-depth post on cruise port shopping in Cozumel. As you wander through the streets lined with local artisans’ shops, let your guard down and follow the delicious aromas wafting from nearby taco joints, bakeries, and fresh juice bars. Each Cozumel port terminal is unique in its own right, and has a range of terminal amenities to ensure that your docking experience is as smooth and enjoyable as possible. Now that you know everything you need to know about your port. Just remember to wear a lot of sunscreen if you plan on walking from pier to pier. Wear environment-friendly sunscreen as well, as some chemicals found in sunscreens are harmful to the marine life.

We’ll cover some of the best things to do on this island to give you some ideas for your upcoming excursions and adventures. As soon as you get off the ship you will find vendors who are able to find you just about any type of vehicle to rent if you want to explore on your own. There is a plethora of options for renting a vehicle and driving around Cozumel as well. The island is easy to navigate in a matter of a couple hours if you don’t make too many stops. Cozumel does have a decent size airport if you are thinking of flying straight there.

It was one of the main attractions for families, so it’s a big loss. Only steps off your ship at Punta Langosta, you'll find yourself in San Miguel de Cozumel, where a myriad of shopping venues and restaurants are at your fingertips. Take your pre-booked taxi service directly to the Cozumel ferry terminal as that's an unmissable part of the journey to Cozumel. There are private shuttle services available as well from the Cancun International Airport.

It’s also a jumping off point for a ferry to Playa del Carmen on the mainland and excursions to the Mayan Ruins. But like any place, while exploring near Cozumel’s cruise ports, it’s key to keep the same basic safety precautions in mind that you would anywhere. Tikila Beach Bar is right across the street from Paprika, and right on the water.

"The island is dominated by the cruise trade and swarms with local merchants hawking everything from tours to time-share real estate. That said, it has its own charm and there are pockets of local flavor." Cozumel offers a unique blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and exciting activities, making it an ideal stop for any Caribbean cruise itinerary. Due to the large number of cruise liners coming to Cozumel daily, Cozumel cruise port consists of 3 cruise terminals, located within walking/short driving distance of each other.

29 Things to Do in Cozumel on a Cruise Day in Port

cozumel cruise ports

Most violence seems to stay on the mainland and away from the popular tourist areas. For finding the right spot, we recommend just checking out the menus as you pass. Most restaurants have menus posted outside where you can see if it fits what you want to eat and your budget. But if you’re anywhere near the ports or water, you’ll find all sorts of options. Just behind that sign is a spot to access the water if you want to swim with the cruise ships in the background.

cozumel cruise ports

Time Zone

As if Cozumel doesn't have enough pristine beachfront, many day trippers to the island like to pop over to the nearby uninhabited Isla Pasion. The dreamy island has crystal-clear water, sun-bleached sand, and plenty of activities to keep visitors occupied, from kayaks and hammocks to beach volleyball, buffet-style restaurants, and bars. Lots of cruise lines also offer packages for excursions to Isla Pasion, so it's easy to squeeze in a visit. Cozumel has three piers, all of which are found on the built-up western side of the island. The International Pier, the oldest cruise ship pier on the island, is located about 3 miles from San Miguel (a long but scenic and safe walk). Carnival Corp.'s Puerta Maya, located about 5 miles from San Miguel, acts as a standalone destination, with restaurants, jewelry stores, local craft carts and a beach.

Cozumel Restaurants & Bars Right at the Cruise Port

In this area, you meet your tour operators for the tours, and ferries normally come to the terminal to pick up the cruise passengers joining the ship shore excursions. If you are taking the mainland tour, the ferry picks you up at the pier (no need to go to the San Miguel ferry terminal). However, if you decide to go to the mainland on your own, you need to take a taxi to the ferry terminal in San Miguel. Port RestaurantsWe mentioned above that the International and Puerta Maya piers have enclosed areas that cater to cruise passengers. Even Punta Langosta in downtown San Miguel funnels you to a similar area. These spots all have restaurants catering to cruise passengers that want to have a good time.

Head to the beach clubs.

The roads that do exist in this particular area can't be accessed by car. You can’t see all of Mexico during your cruise, but this little stop will allow you to at least feel like you did. The tour at Discover Mexico Park will allow you to experience the taste, culture, history, heritage, art, and music of Mexico. There are miniature scale models of famous sites from around Mexico and a tour guide will talk you through some of this country’s most important landmarks. Some of the most incredible caves are found on the mainland at Rio Secreto, where adventurers can explore a picturesque underwater river.

Along the way, you’ll see waterfront restaurants and bars on the other side of the street but be extra careful when you cross the busy road. If your ship docks at this port, you will be in the center of it all and only a few minutes walk to downtown San Miguel, the largest city on the island. It features plenty of shops and restaurants including internationally recognized shopping brands. The best place to shop at in this pier is at Los Cincos Soles. A unique shop, that sells authentic wares sourced from all over Mexico. It also offers a much-needed escape from the intense heat in Cozumel.

There are over 50 different outlets for shopping, from jewelry to apparel, and 15 stand-alone carts where local merchants sell colorful handmade crafts and souvenirs. For restaurants, there are several options available offering local and international cuisine. As aforementioned, the cruise port in Cozumel includes three terminals named Punta Langosta, International Cruise Terminal and Puerta Maya. Note that some cruise lines use two or all of these terminals, so be sure to check your itinerary carefully to make sure you have the right terminal. You don’t’ even have to leave the cruise terminal to find places to shop, but do yourself and the Cozumel locals a favor by venturing out and shopping from local vendors. T-shirts and trinkets are incredible affordable and I haven’t found shop owners to be too pushy compared to other ports.

In some cases, you may need to take a tender boat to the port, but that is uncommon. Most ships visiting Cozumel will dock at one of the three ports. As an island, it’s quieter than some of the more popular areas in Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, like Cancun.

If you’re anywhere that tourists go, you’ll be able to hail a cab whenever the ships are in port. International PierRight next to the Puerta Maya Pier, but just to the north, is the International Pier. It often serves Royal Caribbean ships, including their large Oasis-class ships. Just like its sister pier, the International Pier also has a small “city” that caters to cruise passengers (but you can’t go between the two ports).

Cozumel Cruise Port Shopping Guide – Best Local Shopping Near Each Cruise Pier

Whether you’re in search of handcrafted jewelry, traditional textiles, or the finest tequila, Cozumel’s shopping scene promises an array of treasures waiting to be uncovered. The wider Yucatán region, with its rich tapestry of nature, culture, and history, offers a multitude of excursions that are well worth the extra mile. These excursions, a bit further afield, offer unique experiences and can provide a richer, deeper understanding of the Yucatán Peninsula’s allure. From its Mayan roots and ecological wonders to interactions that will make your heart race, Cozumel’s must-visit spots are bound to etch lasting memories in the heart of every explorer.

A great way to ensure the preservation of the reef is to take only pictures and memories and leave only bubbles. All these beaches are perfect to enjoy the clear waters, the tropical weather and nature and to relax under the sun. Exploring beyond the well-trodden paths can lead you to uncover some truly enchanting experiences – from secluded beaches to authentic local taco spots. The Atlantis Submarine Cozumel experience is another of the many activities on the island that’s great for families. Located right next to the Del Mar Latino Beach Club (highlighted, above), so a very easy walk from either cruise facility.

cozumel cruise ports

Hotels and development block off each access to get to the water. There are a couple of beaches nearby, but you’re usually best off just going to an all-inclusive where there are open beaches and facilities. For a quieter time, try Pancho’s Backyard if you are at Puerta Maya.

If you’re willing to pay more, you can even make your own Mayan chocolate. The store itself is spacious and is known for its beautiful artwork, bowls, magnets, tiles, jewelry, ceramics, and exquisite, hand-painted Talavera pottery—a local art tradition. Some parts of El Cielo have such shallow waters that you can stand on your feet without any trouble. El Cielo is an excellent choice for beginner divers, featuring pristine, turquoise waters and an abundance of marine creatures. Although Paradise Reef is reachable from the shore, it is advised to take a boat, especially if you’re a beginner. Paradise Reef is shallower and more beginner-friendly when compared to other reefs on the island, with a maximum depth of around 40 ft (12 m).

Be on the lookout for the promotional offers that are offered on the gangway as you disembark. And grab beautiful diamond jewelry at Diamonds International or airtightly sealed rum cake, that can last up to 6 months. Making it easier to grab some personal effects while at the place. You can visit this port from the nearby Punta Langosta port via walking, with a scooter or any other vehicular means available. If you want to walk from Punta Langosta or the ferry pier to this place, do so early in the morning when the weather is cool.

Before you visit, use a currency converter to make sure you have enough money on hand. If you plan on paying for your goods and services via credit or debit card, keep in mind that many places — including taxis — may accept cash only. Call your card company before you begin spending and let them know you’re out of the country so they do not freeze your account for suspicious activity. If you plan to visit from August through October, you'll be traveling during peak hurricane season. Travel prices are at their lowest during this time, so you'll want to use those extra savings to get yourself some travel insurance, just in case you get rained out.

If you want more of a relaxed day by the beach, you’ll appreciate the vast selection of beach chairs, umbrellas, hammocks, and cabanas available. Some of the best things to do at the park include strolling in the gardens, watching sea lions and crocodiles, and swimming with dolphins or manatees. Don’t forget to try the tequila tasting and enjoy the swimming pools.

After a career working on some mighty fine design projects in NYC, she took a gap year to pursue her divemaster training in Cozumel...and hasn't quite made it back, yet. Public art along the Malecón adds even more cultural shine to San Miguel, and while many of us locals take it for granted after a while, really speaks to the history and art that infuses most of Mexican life.
